Glossy magazines are full of celebrities suffering mental health breakdowns due to deep depression or manic burnout. Real life magazines tell of the horrors of schizophrenia and the plight of its sufferers. But mention Borderline Personality Disorder to someone in the general public, and they most likely won’t have a clue what you mean. And if they do, they’ll probably have a very stigmatised idea of what BPD actually is. Our mission is simple: Changing Minds.
BPD Me?
If you feel that you have some of the symptoms of BPD then it is essential that you go to a doctor. But be sure not to self-diagnose – explain your concerns to your doctor and let them decide the way forward in treating you. They will most likely refer you to a mental health professional if your symptoms are deemed serious enough. This is nothing to be worried about – in fact it’s a good thing! A mental health professional is a specialist, and just like with physical disorders, a specialist is often the best person to see to get a firm diagnosis and the best treatment plan.
